The Hour of Code
Students at GES joined millions of students around the world, taking part in the international educational initiative Hour of Code (code.org) as part of our library classes during Computer Science Education week from December 4 - 10, 2017. Kids are constantly using technology today, but how many are learning to create it? The Hour of Code can help. Students can go to: http://studio.code.org to continue the fun, using these kid-friendly activities to learn some basic computer programming skills.

Fifth graders work on video reviews
Students learned about books that "break the 4th wall", in which book characters speak directly to the reader, leave the book page, or demand the reader participate in the action of the book. Also called metafiction, books that break the invisible wall between book and reader are some of our students favorites!

For Students, by Students
Each year, As they prepare to move to FMS, fifth graders
write an online review of one of their favorite books, adding it to our Destiny catalog. These reviews will help our younger readers discover and enjoy a title they've loved, a lasting legacy as they move on.

Heifer International service project 2015
With the help of student participation in collecting refundable bottles, the McGrail family, and Albany Beverage, we were able to purchase a pig, a hive of bees and a share in a goat. Purchased through Heifer International, our donation aided a family needing economic stability.
