Our Mission

Guilderland High School counselors foster each student's social, emotional and academic development to maximize their educational potential.  We bring together people, information and resources to effect positive growth in students' lives.

The Counseling Center is open on school days from 7:15 a.m. until 3:15 p.m.  Counselors are available during the school day to meet with students and parents by appointment.  The center is open during school vacations (but not national holidays or weekends or the Friday after Thanksgiving), when a counselor may be on duty.

method test prep now available to all GHS students

Are you interested in preparing for upcoming SATs, ACTs or PSATs?  You can access an extensive on-line prep program through your NAVIANCE account.  Log onto your NAVIANCE account and click on the top link on your home page - it reads "method test prep."  Follow the instructions to "sign up."  Once you have created your account, go to and click on member login.  Use your login information to be on your way to having preparation at your fingertips!

Important information for seniors and parents of seniors

The Common Application for students applying to college in the fall of 2018 will become active on August 1.  If you created your account prior to this date, your information will be available to "roll over" into the '17-'18 application.  Log on to to get started. 

If you are only applying to SUNY schools, you might be interested in using the SUNY on-line application.  Click here to get started.

For students planning to attend college in September of 2018 and thereafter, the FAFSA can now be completed as early as October 1.  This is also the date that the CSS Profile becomes available.  Please check with individual colleges for deadlines and for which forms need to be completed.  The links to both forms will be posted here once the forms become available. 

 The Guilderland High School Senior Scholarship Committee chooses many recipients of awards given out at the Junior/Senior Awards evening program. If you would like to be considered for any of these awards, please complete the following and return it to your School Counselor no later than MAY 1, 2018.  (Click here for PDF)

General Information:  If students typically use testing accommodations on school based tests and would like to be considered for the same accommodations on PSATs, SATs and/or ACTs, they must apply to the appropriate testing service for approval to use those accommodations well in advance of the test.  Please see your counselor or special education advocate for more information.
