All State

Each year thousands of student musicians across New York State compete for an opportunity to be selected for the prestigious NYSSMA Conference All State Music Ensembles. Admission to these highly selective groups is based upon the score received the previous spring during the NYSSMA Solo Evaluation Festival. Click here to go to the NYSSMA Web site to learn more about the All-State process.

Area All State

These outstanding ensembles consist of students chosen from a nine county area including Albany, Fulton, Hamilton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Warren, and Washington counties. Competitive selection to these groups is based upon the score received by the students’ during the previous spring at the NYSSMA solo evaluation festival.

Suburban Council Music Festival

Participants for this annual music festival are selected from the thirteen Suburban Scholastic Council school districts. The groups performing this year include a High School Band, Chorus and Orchestra as well as a Middle School Jazz Band.  Good luck to all the students auditioning for these ensembles!

Student Composer Night

Each year student composers of every age have an opportunity to share their original music. Student composers can perform or have someone else perform music that they have written. Although the music must be original, it does not have to be notated or written down for participation. Each year the concert is a great success with varied pieces for piano, instruments, voice or electronic music! Any student in elementary, middle or high school may participate in this event. Interested students should download an application for participation and play or show their piece to a music teacher for approval. Come and share your music with other composers! Pops Concert

The "Pops " is an annual event to help support Guilderland's K-12 Music Program. The event features performances by all of the major high school music groups, which includes more than 350 talented students. Table seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Refreshments are available and served by music students. Funds raised from the event help the Guilderland Music Parents & Friends provide scholarships, music enrichment activities, and other materials for the district's K-12 music program. This year the Guilderland High School Music Department celebrates with “Pops Goes to the Movies!”. This annual concert will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017, and features performances by all of the high school music ensembles – over 350 talented students – in the Choirs, Bands, Orchestras and Jazz Band. This year, small vocal and instrumental ensembles will also be performing as well. This event is the major fund raiser for the music booster organization, the Guilderland Music Parents and Friends Association. The GMPFA, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3), uses all funds raised from the Pops Concert to provide scholarships, enrichment activities, assembly programs, guest clinicians, and other resources for students of every age throughout the Guilderland school district. For this concert, the High School West Gym is decorated and set with tables and chairs. Eighth grade waiters and waitresses serve light refreshments that are available for purchase. Come enjoy the music of “Pops Goes to the Movies” on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $6 pre-sale and $7 at the door with table seats available on a first come, first served basis.
