Community Conversation held 2/15
On Wednesday, Feb. 15, school administrators and several community members came together to hear the results of the district's community survey and to engage in a face-to-face dialogue about next year's budget proposals.
At the Jan. 31 Board of Education meeting, state aid for the 2016-17
school year was reviewed and the potential state aid for 2017-18 was
looked at. The tax cap for 2017-18 was also discussed.

Transportation Supervisor Michael Gannon and Director of Physical Plant Management Clifford Nooney presented their proposal for the bus and equipment proposition for the 2017-18 budget. What is fund balance? If revenue collected for the school budget remains at the end of a district's fiscal year, that money becomes part of its fund balance. Districts must adhere to state laws that govern how fund balance can be spent. Options include applying it to a future budget in the from of revenue, earmarking it for anticipated futures needs and/or saving it for unexpected emergencies. At the Nov. 15 Board of Education meeting, Asst. Superintendent for Business Neil Sanders shared GCSD's budget outlook for next year. He spoke about enrollment and staffing, state aid, property tax cap growth factor, expenditures and advocacy. Download it here: 2017-18 budget outlook (PDF)
