Supply lists (17-18)

Hiawatha 6A supply list for the 2017-18 school year

August 2017—

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to FMS, Hiawatha House, and our team for the 2017-2018 school year. We are looking forward to working with you this coming school year.

Parents, we would appreciate it if you would write a letter telling us about your child. After all, you know him/her better than anyone else. We are very interested in learning about his/her strengths, weaknesses, interests and any areas of concern (s)he, or you may have.

Students, we want to hear from you, too (a required homework assignment already ☺!) -- write a letter about yourself. Tell us what you’ve been doing, how you feel about starting at FMS, and anything else you would like us to know. To help learn who you are faster, please include a picture of yourself if possible. Please mail or e-mail your letters to us. You can also bring them on the first day of school. Our e-mail addresses are listed below:
clumdolann@guilderlandschools.net
margosianj@guilderlandschools.net
huestisc@guilderlandschools.net

Any books read over the summer may be recorded and will count as books read in the sixth grade. What a great way to start the school year! Reading over the summer also gives children a head start on Mrs. Clum Dolan’s 10,000 page challenge.

To help your child come to school prepared in the fall, we have enclosed a list of required school supplies. Please make sure to clearly label each item with the student’s full name, homeroom number and/or teacher. Below is a list of items we would like students to keep in their binder at all times. The rest of the supplies may be kept in their locker until they are needed.

red Science folder
yellow Math folder
blue Language Arts folder
green Social Studies folder
black parent folder
loose leaf paper
assignment pad
pencil case with: pen(s), pencil(s), highlighter, eraser, pencil sharper, dry erase marker
personal choice book (may be carried separately)

Enjoy the rest of the summer. The first day of school will be on Wednesday, September 6. Please bring all of your supplies that day.

Thank you in advance for your letters. We are looking forward to meeting you in September.

Sincerely,
Nancy Clum Dolan
Jennifer Margosian
Christine Huestis

Important Lock and Locker Information
All Grade 6 students in Hiawatha will be provided one, free-hanging, combination lock in Homeroom at the start of the year (lockers in Seneca have a built-in combination lock). Hiawatha, Mohawk, and Tawasentha students are responsible for their provided lock for their entire career at FMS. At the end of the school year, students will take their assigned lock home for the summer and bring it back for the next school year.
● Students who misplace or lose this lock will need to purchase a replacement. We encourage students to purchase a school-issued lock at a cost of $5 at their house office.
● Students must purchase their own lock for the locker they will use in the Physical Education locker room.

Physical Education at FMS
Welcome to Physical Education at FMS. Each student will be assigned a locker in which they should store their clothes/belongings. The following items are needed for physical education class:

● Combination padlock (please, no key locks)
● Change of clothes (shorts/sweats, t-shirt/sweatshirt)
● Pair of sneakers
