On Tuesday, Oct. 1 at its regular meeting, the Guilderland Central School District Board of Education appointed Meredith Brière to the board. Brière fills the vacant seat previously held by Judy Slack, who recently retired after 16 years of service as a board member.

Under New York State law, school boards are permitted to fill vacancies through appointment until the next regular election, held annually in May.

Brière is a parent of two daughters who will be attending Guilderland schools. Brière is eager to contribute to the local educational landscape having relocated from Arizona to [Guilderland] for the “quality of [New York’s] public education system.”

“Every child deserves access to quality education,” she stated. “I am committed to using my skills and experience to support our schools in fostering academic success and community engagement.”

Brière brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Her professional background spans various positions focused on service, leadership, and advocacy. Currently, she is serving as treasurer for the Joe Seeman for Assembly campaign. Her expertise in governance, financial oversight, and community outreach will be invaluable as she collaborates with fellow board members to shape the future of the district.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Brière is committed to civic engagement,  serving as a committee member on the Guilderland and Albany Democratic Committees and as the treasurer for the Guilderland Fire District. She shared that these roles have enhanced her understanding of local governance and underscored the importance of fiscal responsibility.

“I will work to ensure that our schools are well-resourced and maintain transparent and responsible financial practices,” Brière added. “I believe in creating an inclusive environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed.”

The Board of Education looks forward to Brière’s contributions in the months ahead.
