Farnsworth Middle School (FMS) is proud to announce that three of its talented students have been awarded a Certificate of Merit in the Grades 6-8 Division of the prestigious 2024 New York State Archives Student Research Awards competition. This statewide initiative invites students from grades 4–12 to dive deep into New York’s rich history through original research, and this year’s scholars have truly risen to the challenge.
Celebrating Our Scholars
The three awardees from FMS are:

Anika Bhupati (Mullins-Mohawk 7B): Anika produced a documentary titled, The Sky’s the Limit: How the Wright Brothers Revolutionized Modern Aviation.

Matthew Stapleton (Malanga-Mohawk 7B): Matthew created an exhibit titled Tenants, Patroons, and Debt, Oh My! The Domino Effect that Led to the Anti-Rent War.

Moksha Prasad Pathipati (Hart-Tawasentha 7): Moksha created an exhibit titled, America’s Secret Weapon of World War II.
A Platform for Exploration
The New York State Archives Student Research Awards program encourages students to explore their state’s historical records, fostering a deep appreciation for history and research methodologies. To qualify for the awards, students must conduct original historical research, compile an annotated bibliography, and receive a nomination from a mentor.
The efforts of Anika, Matthew, and Moksha reflect not only their individual dedication but also the supportive educational environment fostered by their teachers and mentors at Farnsworth Middle School. Mr. Laster, along with the rest of the faculty, has expressed immense pride in these scholars and their outstanding accomplishments.
