Candidate Qualifications

The Guilderland Board of Education is seeking an educational leader with a proven record of success. The successful candidate will:

  • Be a VISIONARY with innovative and forward-thinking ideas, willing to make bold decisions with thoughtful input from the greater Guilderland school community. The board seeks a leader who is future-ready focused, furthers its student-centric momentum, and actively engages students in decision-making and growth.
  • Possess high EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE, listen and validate diverse viewpoints respectfully. The next superintendent must act with integrity, honesty, transparency and humility, while being approachable and visible in classrooms, schools and community events.
  • Be committed to DIVERSITY, EQUITY and INCLUSION through the lens of justice and belonging, ensuring each and every student feels valued and supported. Be someone who will understand and respond to the needs of students of all ages and abilities, in a growing socioeconomically, culturally and racially diverse population, addressing unique needs with inclusive practices and advancing discussions into transformative policies and operations.
  • Be an INSTRUCTIONAL LEADER with a deep understanding of instructional and non-instructional operations, knowledge of literacy, special education, restorative practices and social-emotional learning to promote and advance academic excellence. Someone who focuses on the whole child and possesses the foresight to understand how administrative decisions affect teaching and learning, and the capacity for bringing about meaningful positive change through collaboration and consensus.
  • Possess FISCAL AND OPERATIONAL ACUMEN, with knowledge and experience in school district budgeting and finance. The successful candidate will be someone with the ability to work through and implement multiple phased capital project plans to modernize learning and operational spaces for innovation, creativity and community.
  • Be an EXECUTIVE who models professionalism to inspire and guide others by fostering an empowered, collaborative team environment that brings people together with timely, consistent communication and ensures responsiveness to families and the community by addressing concerns and maintaining strong connections. Someone who champions lifelong learning for staff and self through professional development.

About the position

The Board of Education will offer a three-year contract with a regionally competitive salary, commensurate with the preparation, qualifications, experience, and record of the successful candidate, as well as an attractive benefits package. The Board of Education prefers that the superintendent lives in the district.

Salary range: $210,000 – $230,000
