April 11 update: 2025-26 budget adoption, capital project; GHS Cultural Fair; upcoming events; spring recess

A message from Dr. Wiles:

Dear GCSD Families,

Earlier this week at their meeting on Tuesday, April 8, the Guilderland Central School District Board of Education adopted a $127,547,392 budget for the 2025-26 school year. This represents an increase of $2,354,575, or 1.88 percent, in spending over the current year. If approved, the tax levy would increase by 2.22 percent, which is at the district’s levy limit, as defined by New York State’s tax levy cap legislation.

This budget aligns with the district’s objectives of empowering each and every student to achieve success, while also keeping an eye on its financial future by:

  • maintaining existing class size guidelines, which allow for individual attention and improved academic performance;
  • preserving programs and services that engage students in a variety of ways, to encourage a lifelong love of learning;
  • proposing necessary reductions where savings can be realized, as a result of declining enrollment and/or staff attrition.

In addition to the budget, voters will be asked to elect four board of education members, decide on a vehicle proposition as well as the 2025 Future Ready capital project proposition. The objective of this $57.3 million improvement plan is to begin the multi-year process of transforming GCSD facilities into future ready learning environments.

GHS Cultural Fair

The annual Cultural Fair was held today at Guilderland High School. The finale to cultural spirit week, the day-long event brings together GHS students and staff to honor and explore the rich diversity within our community. Students created booths that featured informational displays, cultural artifacts, traditional food and interactive games. There were also several live performances throughout the day that showcased regional music, traditional dances, martial arts demos and henna art. The Cultural Fair offers an opportunity for students to learn from one another and deepen their appreciation for other cultures, creating a more unified school. It’s a joyful celebration of diversity, inclusivity and all that makes the Guilderland community a truly special place.

No school April 14-18; contingent holiday May 23

There will be no school for all students next week, April 14-18. In observance of Good Friday, the district office will be closed on Friday, April 18.

Please note that Friday, May 23 is indicated as a contingent holiday for GCSD students and staff on the school year calendar. If the district does not use more than one additional emergency closure day before that date, there will be no school and all district offices will be closed. Future communications will update families as the date approaches.

Thank you for your continued support of Guilderland Central School District students and our school community. Have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Marie Wiles, Ph.D.
