Appointment for a seven-month term beginning on Oct. 1, 2024
The Guilderland Central School District Board of Education is seeking to fill a vacancy on the board for the seat held by Judy Slack, who will resign effective Sept. 11, 2024. New York State law allows school boards to fill such vacancies by appointment until the next regular election in May.
The appointment will be for a term of approximately seven months, from Oct. 1, 2024 through May 20, 2025. If the appointed person wishes to complete the remainder of Mrs. Slack’s three-year term, ending on June 30, 2026, he or she would need to file a petition and run for election in May, along with any other interested candidates.
Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of the school district for at least one year prior to the appointment.
The board invites Guilderland community members to submit a letter of interest and resume, as well as any other documentation that may be helpful in the selection process for review no later than Sept 13.

All interested candidates will be interviewed for the vacant seat. The interview process will take place Sept. 24, beginning at 6 p.m., as part of a special meeting of the board of education. This meeting will be held in the Large Group Instruction room at Guilderland High School. The meeting will be open to the public and can be viewed on the GHS Media YouTube channel.
The successful candidate is expected to be appointed to the board at the Oct. 1 meeting.
