The Employee Recognition Award is a wonderful tradition in our district. In the late 1970s, the Board of Education authorized the establishment of a committee to review the names of Guilderland employees who have made outstanding contributions to the Guilderland Central School District. Over these many years, more than 466 employees have been recipients of this award. You may nominate an employee whose contributions have been:
- through loyal service over a period of time, or
- through special acts that exceed normal expectations, or
- have had a significant immediate or long-range impact on students and /or employees.
The person you nominate is not restricted to someone from your own work group. For example, teachers may nominate a custodial employee or transportation employees may nominate a secretary, etc. Also many times nominations are submitted for individuals who have already received such recognition. To assist you in this process, a list of previous recipients is included as a pdf in this memo. This is not the venue to recognize someone who is retiring at the end of the school year. If you wish to nominate an employee who you feel deserves this special recognition and with whom you have a professional relationship, please do the following:
Provide what you consider to be specific reasons why that person meets the stated criteria and provide details which will be helpful to the Employee Recognition Committee in making the final selections. Those submissions not addressing these criteria will receive little consideration. Examples of criteria which should be considered in making the nomination are employees who have:
- years of dedicated service which exceed normal expectations;
- assumed leadership roles in or outside of their job assignment;
- shown a pattern of inspiring others by example;
- displayed initiative and innovation in their job assignment;
- provided extensive service to students outside their job assignment;
- been especially responsive to student needs, within or outside the classroom;
- demonstrated a pattern of going beyond their job assignment when the situation demands;
- accomplishments that promote the Guilderland Schools in the immediate community or beyond;
- been awarded special recognition for accomplishments in the employee’s field of expertise; and/or
- any other criteria which demonstrate outstanding service beyond an isolated event may also be used.
Ask yourself what makes your nominee outstanding as a Guilderland employee.
