Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,
It is with deep sadness that we inform you about a recent loss to our school community.
On Saturday, Feb. 8, we were made aware of the unexpected death of one of our longtime teachers Mr. Jeffrey Herchenroder. Memorial services will be held on Friday, Feb. 28 at 6:30 PM at the First Reformed Church at 8 N. Church Street in Schenectady.
Mr. Herchenroder joined the district in September of 1998, and over the years has taught students in all seven of our buildings. This year, he worked with students at Lynnwood and Westmere Elementary Schools and Guilderland High School.
“We are profoundly saddened by the passing of Mr. Herchenroder. We are grateful for his many contributions to the Guilderland school community. He truly inspired and nurtured a love of music for all, but particularly for those who pursued the study of stringed instruments. He will be missed,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marie Wiles.
Mr. Herchenroder was also a bassist for the Albany Symphony; he had been a member of the orchestra for over 33 years, and was recently recognized by that organization for his many years of dedicated service.
In difficult times like these, we wish to support of our students, faculty and staff. A team of counselors, school psychologists and social workers will be available in each of our buildings to provide support to anyone who might need assistance.
