Lynnwood Elementary’s annual Longhouse Week has been a fall tradition since 1999. The weeklong project began 21 years ago to create an engaging, hands-on learning experience for fourth-grade students. Longhouse Week focuses on the historical facts of Iroquois life but also encourages teamwork, communication, and a host of other skills not found in the pages of a textbook.
Students participated in building the village and other lessons including a virtual visit to the Iroquois Museum in Howes Caves. Younger students at Lynnwood enjoyed a tour of the Iroquois village.
Thank you to the GCSD facilities crew for their help with building the village and to LES teachers Kristen Janssen and Lindsey Lewis for the photos!
