Nov. 1 update: Dr. Wiles’ retirement; digital equity survey; toy drive; GHS play; no school Nov. 5

A message from Dr. Wiles:

Dear GCSD Families,

Last week I informed the Guilderland school community and board of education that I intend to retire at the end of the school year. It has been my honor and privilege to serve the Guilderland Central School District for more than 14 years, however it is time to pass the baton. Soon the board will begin the process of searching for your next superintendent; we will keep you informed of their progress.

NYSED digital equity survey

As required by the New York State Education Department (NYSED), GCSD and all other New York schools must report data on students’ access to the internet and at-home computing devices for learning. To accomplish this task, parents and guardians are asked to complete a digital resource survey for each student in their family.

We urge all families to take a few minutes to complete the survey. By doing so, you will help ensure all students have equal access to technology as well as digital tools. In recent years, student home access to the internet has become a fundamental aspect of learning.

The survey will be emailed to each family with student information prepopulated; please look for the email to arrive by the end of next week.

Sixteenth annual holiday toy drive Nov. 8-Dec. 6

Once again, the Guilderland Teaching Assistants are holding their annual toy drive, which will run Nov. 8-Dec. 6. The toy drive will benefit local families. Learn more about the items that are needed and how to make donations here.

GHS presents “The Cottage,” Nov. 7-9

The Guilderland Players will present their fall production, “The Cottage” , on Nov. 7-8, at 7 p.m.; Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. & 7 p.m. in the Guilderland High School auditorium. Ticket information can be found here.

Reminder: no school, Nov. 5

There will be no school for all GCSD students on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Faculty and staff will be participating in a variety of professional learning experiences on timely and relevant topics to better meet the academic and social-emotional needs of our students.

This is Guilderland

I’d like to leave you with a video the district Communications Team recently made about GCSD. Entitled “This is Guilderland,” it’s a visual representation of our mission and values and how we endeavor to fulfill them each and every day, while also continually striving to be better. The video is a celebration of the moments, both large and small, that are meaningful to our students, whether in the classroom, on the stage, in our hallways or on our athletic fields.

The video has been shared with our school community through our social media channels and has been posted on the district website however I want to make sure each of you have the opportunity to see all that is good, positive and uplifting about our schools. We hope you enjoy it.

Thank you for your continued support of Guilderland Central School District students and our school community. Have a wonderful and enjoyable weekend.

Sincerely,

Marie Wiles, Ph.D.
Superintendent
