A message from Dr. Wiles:
Dear GCSD Families,
Today marks the close of the first quarter of the school year; report cards will be available for families to access on Friday, Nov. 17.
This is a good time to take note of your students’ attendance record to date. Regular, consistent attendance paves the way for strong student engagement and has a positive impact on academic achievement and success. Each day students are present in school is a new opportunity for learning and growth, which is why we’re making improved attendance a districtwide focus area. In the coming weeks, we will provide all GCSD families with a report that is specific to your child’s/children’s attendance record. This report will also contain information about the school’s average attendance as well as what NYSED defines as chronic absenteeism, so families have accurate attendance information and a point of comparison.
NYSED Digital Resources Survey
The New York State Education Department (NYSED) requires the Guilderland Central School District and all other NYS schools to report data on students’ access to the internet and at-home computing devices for learning. To accomplish this task, families are asked to complete a digital resource survey for each of their students.
We urge all families to take a few minutes to complete the survey. By doing so, you are helping ensure all students have equal access to technology as well as digital tools. In recent years, student home access to the internet has become a fundamental aspect of learning.
The survey will be emailed to each family with student information prepopulated; please look for the email to arrive next week.
Upcoming important school calendar dates
Veterans Day is Saturday, Nov. 11. In observance of this holiday, all GCSD schools and district offices will be closed Friday, Nov. 10. This meaningful day has been marked in our classrooms and school buildings with the creation of cards, artwork and tributes. GCSD honors all of the military veterans in our school community; thank you for your service and sacrifice.
All seven GCSD school buildings will also be closed for Thanksgiving recess, Nov. 22-24; the district offices will be closed Nov. 23-24.
Thank you for your continued support of Guilderland Central School District students and our school community.
Sincerely,
Marie Wiles, Ph.D.
Superintendent
