Oct. 4 update: confidential tip line; new board member appointed; employee recognition ceremony

A message from Dr. Wiles:

Dear GCSD Families,

Given recent events that have transpired in schools and BOCES across New York state, it’s an opportune time to remind the Guilderland Central School District community that the Guilderland Police Department has established a Confidential Tip Line. Accessible at 518-356-1503, this resource provides a safe way for district students, families, faculty and staff to report threats to school safety.

Board Appoints New Member to Fill Vacant Seat

At its meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 1, the board of education appointed Meredith Brière to fill the seat previously held by Judy Slack, who retired in Sept. Under New York state law, school boards are permitted to fill vacancies through appointment until the next regular election in May. Learn more about Meredith Brière on the district website.

46th Annual Employee Recognition Ceremony

Twelve GCSD employees were honored at the district’s 46th Employee Recognition Ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 1. These exceptional staff members were nominated by their colleagues and chosen by a committee of peers in recognition of the extraordinary work they perform each and every day. This ceremony is a long-standing Guilderland tradition that is always a joyful and inspirational celebration of district employees who make outstanding contributions. Read more about these exceptional employees and how they go above and beyond for GCSD students, families and staff.

Future Ready Task Force to Report at Special Board Meeting, Tues., Oct. 8

There will be a special meeting of the board of education on Tuesday, Oct. 8, for the Future Ready Task Force to report on its work to the board and the newly appointed Facilities Committee. Since its formation in the winter, the Future Ready Task Force and its five subcommittees have explored how to ensure GCSD graduates are prepared for their future beyond high school as well as implications for the district’s facilities. The task force is now ready to make its recommendations regarding areas such as innovative programming, technology, career and technical education, music and classroom environments, in addition to the necessary improvements to facilities. Upon hearing the task force’s report, the Facilities Committee will meet over the coming months to compile a report of recommendations to address short- and long-term improvements to GCSD facilities, with the ultimate objective of a referendum going to Guilderland voters in May 2025. The special board meeting will be held in the Large Group Instruction (LGI) room at Guilderland High School and is open to the public. The meeting will also be live-streamed and can be viewed on the GHS Media YouTube channel.

Thank you for your continued support of Guilderland Central School District students and our school community. Have a wonderful and enjoyable weekend.

Sincerely,

Marie Wiles, Ph.D.
Superintendent
