On Tuesday, Oct. 1, U. S. Rep. Paul Tonko visited Altamont Elementary School to deliver more than $500 worth of books from the Library of Congress Book Surplus Program. The Guilderland Central School District is within the 20th congressional district, which Rep. Tonko represents in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Library of Congress receives more books than it can house, therefore surplus books are distributed to libraries around the country. AES Librarian Anne Johnson applied for the donation through the program, which the congressman’s office helped to facilitate.

In addition to delivering the books, Rep. Tonko addressed fifth grade students and answered questions, which covered a variety of topics including what it’s like to be in Congress and his favorite books.

Thank you to Rep. Tonko for supporting Guilderland schools and students!
