On Wednesday, Oct. 23, Guilderland Central School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marie Wiles announced she will retire at the end of the 2024-25 school year, effective June 30, 2025. The Board of Education will formally accept the Superintendent’s retirement resignation at its Nov. 19 meeting.
Dr. Wiles made the announcement to district staff through in-person meetings and email, where she conveyed her gratitude for their work in support of Guilderland students. “I believe that we have been able to stay focused on our mission of preparing our students for their future and hopefully, inspiring them to find their personal pathways to success and happiness.”
The email continued, “This mission could not be fulfilled without all of you who come to work each day to do your part…I am so fortunate to have been the leader of this team effort.”
In an email to families Dr. Wiles expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to lead the district. “It has been my honor and privilege to serve the Guilderland Central School District for more than 14 years.”
The GCSD Board of Education is committed to maintaining the mission and educational standards of the district and in the coming weeks will develop a plan to execute a thorough search to find the best candidate to succeed Dr. Wiles. Once a plan is developed, it will be shared with the school community.
Dr. Wiles explained the timing of her announcement: “I want to be sure that the Board of Education has ample time to find just the right person to lead and serve this wonderful school community. There are many important tasks ahead of us this year. I remain fully committed to see them through and to create the conditions for a smooth transition for whoever will next lead the Guilderland Central School District.”
Board President Blanca Gonzalez-Parker said of Dr. Wiles’ announcement, “On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to congratulate and thank Dr. Wiles for her years of service to the Guilderland Central School District. She has led our district with consummate professionalism, and made a profound impact on the lives of thousands of students across our community and beyond. During Dr. Wiles’ tenure she has served as an agent for change and is viewed widely as a role model for school leaders. As Board President I have witnessed her relentless dedication to helping every student succeed. The Board of Education is committed to working in partnership with Dr. Wiles and school administrators to provide a seamless transition for our learning community.”
Dr. Marie Wiles began her tenure as Superintendent of the Guilderland Central School District in October 2010. Prior to joining GCSD, Dr. Wiles served as Superintendent of the Clinton Central School District, and the District Superintendent of Otsego Northern Catskills BOCES.
